The only text added to an export is the map data credit in the page margin. - It runs in current desktop and mobile browsers with JavaScript and WebGL. - It is created and maintained by Yasoob Khalid. The source code and issue tracker are public on GitHub. ### Page sizes - Presets: A2 (420 × 594 mm), A3 (297 × 420 mm), A4 (210 × 297 mm), A5 (148 × 210 mm), A6 (105 × 148 mm) and US Letter (215.9 × 279.4 mm). - Any custom width and height in millimetres, in portrait or landscape. - The editor shows the print frame at the chosen size while you compose. ### Map styles and labels - 12 map styles: Paper, Graphite, Porcelain, Sandstone, Night Ink, Blueprint, Sea Glass, Rosewater, Alpine, Coastal, Terracotta and Signal. - A palette editor adjusts tone, contrast and detail, plus individual colours for land, water, parks, buildings, roads, boundaries, transit and labels. - Labels use local names plus 6 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese), at 50–200% text scale. - Roads, buildings, labels, water, parks, land detail and transit can each be shown or hidden. ### Routes, places and areas - Routes can be straight, arcs or road-following, with travel markers along the line. - A route elevation profile downloads separately as SVG, PNG or PDF, 50 to 300 mm wide. - Places can be added one by one or from a spreadsheet of up to 300 coordinate rows or 25 addresses. - Place markers can use a custom PNG, JPEG or SVG image. - Areas can be drawn by hand, picked from a catalogue of countries and first-level regions, or generated as travel-time areas for walking, cycling or driving from 5 to 60 minutes. - GPX, KML and GeoJSON files up to 5 MB import as editable layers. A project holds up to 1,000 layers and 200,000 coordinates. ### Poster layout - Layout presets: City edition, Quiet lines, After dark, Land & outline and Field notes. - Ready-made example projects for Lisbon, Kyoto, New York and Copenhagen. - Title, subtitle, caption and coordinates (decimal or degrees-minutes-seconds), with page margins and paper colour. - The map can be clipped to the outline of a country or region. - PNG or JPEG photos pin to places and appear as round or square badges on the map or in a numbered strip with captions, up to 24 photo stops. - Map furniture: a compass (arrow or rose), a metric or imperial scale bar, a labelled coordinate grid, and a QR code that opens the map centre or a chosen place in Google Maps. - 3D terrain with adjustable exaggeration, and contour lines with a chosen interval and colour. - Wall preview shows the poster on a wall in a black, white, oak or walnut frame, with an optional mat. ### Exports - PNG at 300 dpi for the selected page size, for example about 4961 × 3508 pixels for A3. - PDF at the exact page size, with routes, places and shapes as vector content. - Layered SVG with routes, places and shapes as named vector groups over the basemap. - Layered PSD with each content layer and the attribution as separate SVG Smart Objects for Photoshop. - MP4 map video with an Orbit or Sway motion, 5, 10 or 15 seconds, 30 or 60 fps, in the page shape or 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5, up to 1920 pixels on the long edge. Recording uses the browser MP4 recorder in Chrome, Edge and Safari. - STL terrain relief for 3D printing, sized in millimetres to match the print frame, with low, medium or high detail and an optional raised route ridge. - A portable project file that reopens the full design later. - All exports are generated in the browser and download directly. ### Sharing - Read-only share links and iframe embed code with a chosen height. - The design is compressed into the link itself, so sharing needs no upload. - Shared maps and embeds keep the map attribution. ### Data sources and privacy - Basemaps use OpenFreeMap tiles with OpenMapTiles data from OpenStreetMap contributors. - Terrain uses AWS Terrain Tiles (Mapzen) with data from USGS, SRTM and other sources. Elevation profiles use the Open-Meteo elevation API. - Place search, road routing, map matching and travel-time areas use Mapbox. - Projects autosave in browser storage on the device. Imported files and exports stay on the device. ## Pages ### Printable map maker URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/printable-map-maker/ Make a printable map for a handout, report or guidebook. Set an exact page size, add routes, places, a scale bar and a grid, and export a 300 DPI PDF or PNG. Print-document maps: A2–A6, US Letter or custom millimetre pages sized to a text column, styles and label settings that read on paper, routes, places, scale bar, coordinate grid, compass and location QR, and 300 DPI PDF or PNG export for Word, InDesign or a print shop. #### Maps for handouts, reports and guidebooks | Document | Page to set | What to add | File to export | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Event handout | A4 or US Letter portrait | The venue and parking as places, a walking route from the station, a scale bar | PDF for the copy shop | | Report figure | 160 × 110 mm custom page, margins 0 | Site boundary as a shape, a coordinate grid with labels, a north compass | PNG for Word, PDF for InDesign | | Guidebook page | A5 or A6 portrait | A day walk with its stops, labels at 120–130% text scale | PDF or layered SVG for the designer | | Brochure panel | Custom 99 × 210 mm for a DL panel | Two or three places with your own marker, quiet base map | PDF | | Field sheet | A4 landscape | Coordinate grid at a round interval, metric scale bar, contour lines | PDF | #### Questions Q: What page sizes can I use? A: Choose A2, A3, A4, A5, A6 or US Letter, or enter a custom width and height in millimetres. Portrait and landscape both work, and custom pages go up to 1330 mm a side. Q: How do I put a map into a Word document? A: Set a custom page the width of your text column, for example 160 × 110 mm, set the margins to 0 and export a PNG. Word reads the DPI stored in the file and inserts the map at 160 mm wide. Q: Will the map print sharply on an office printer? A: Yes. PNG and PDF exports are rendered at 300 DPI for the page you set, and in PDF the routes, places, scale bar and grid stay as vector lines. Q: Can I add a scale bar and a grid? A: Yes. The Layout tab has a metric or imperial scale bar, a coordinate grid with optional labels, a north compass and a location QR code. Q: Which export format should I choose? A: PDF for a print shop or InDesign, PNG for Word and slide decks, layered SVG for Illustrator or Inkscape, and layered PSD for Photoshop. Q: Where is my project saved? A: The project autosaves in your browser storage. Download a portable project file to keep a copy you can open on any computer. ### City map posters URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/city-map-poster/ Make a city map poster at A3, A2 or any size in millimetres. Choose how much of the city to show, tune labels and colours, then download a 300 DPI PNG or PDF. Guide to making a city map poster in Print Map Studio: choosing the ground width and scale for an A3 page, controlling label density and language, and picking one of 12 map styles. Exports are 300 DPI PNG, PDF, layered SVG or layered PSD. #### How much city fits on an A3 sheet | Ground across the map | Scale | 100 m block on paper | Works well for | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 3 km | about 1:11,000 | 9 mm | One neighbourhood or an old town, with room for street names | | 6 km | about 1:22,000 | 4.6 mm | A compact city centre with its river or harbour | | 12 km | about 1:43,000 | 2.3 mm | Paris inside the Périphérique, where districts and boulevards carry the poster | | 25 km | about 1:90,000 | 1.1 mm | A whole mid-sized city and the edge where it meets the country | | 60 km | about 1:217,000 | 0.5 mm | London inside the M25, where motorways and the Thames do the work | #### Questions Q: Which cities can I make a poster of? A: Any town or city in the world. The base map is drawn from OpenStreetMap data through OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap, so small towns and villages are covered as well as capitals. Q: What size should I print a city map poster? A: A3 (297 × 420 mm) suits a desk wall or a hallway. A2 (420 × 594 mm) is a good size above a sofa or bed. For a frame you already own, choose Custom and enter its size in millimetres. Q: Is the PNG sharp enough for a large print? A: PNG export renders at 300 DPI for the page size you chose. That is 3508 × 4961 pixels at A3 and 4961 × 7016 pixels at A2. For the cleanest type and lines, send a PDF. Q: Can I mark my street or my flat? A: Yes. Add a place with the Place tool, give it a label and pick a marker colour, shape and size. You can also upload your own PNG, JPEG or SVG marker, such as a small heart or house icon, and export it in PNG, layered SVG or layered PSD. Q: Can I change the language of street names? A: Yes. Map › Labels & details switches labels between local names, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese. Q: How do I get it printed? A: Download the file and take it to any print shop or online printer. Most ask for a PDF at the exact page size. The map print size guide lists the pixel dimensions for every page size. ### Country map posters URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/country-map-poster/ Clip a map to the outline of a country, state or province and print it as a poster. Pick from 258 countries and their regions, set the size, export PNG or PDF. Print Map Studio can clip the map to a country or first-level region outline (Natural Earth 5.1.1 boundaries, 258 countries and territories) using an inverted mask filled with the paper colour. The page explains how the frame works, how to handle large and small countries and far-off territories, and title typography. #### Small countries and big countries print differently | Country size | Examples | What you see inside the outline | Settings that help | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | City-states | Monaco, Singapore, Vatican City | Individual streets, blocks, the harbour | Treat it as a city poster with a shaped border. Keep street labels on. | | Small countries | Luxembourg, Malta, Slovenia, Cyprus | Towns, main roads, rivers, forests | Text scale around 130%, parks and land detail on. | | Mid-sized | Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Japan | Coast, motorways, major cities | Hide minor detail or labels for a shape-first look. | | Large | Brazil, Canada, Australia, Russia | Coastline, big lakes and rivers, the largest cities | Landscape page, roads hidden, a strong style such as Night Ink or Coastal. | #### Questions Q: Which countries and regions can I use? A: 258 countries and territories from Natural Earth 5.1.1, plus first-level regions for 251 of them, such as US states, Canadian provinces, French départements and Japanese prefectures. Q: Can I make a poster of a single state or province? A: Yes. After choosing the country, pick the region instead of Entire country. The map fits that region and masks everything around it, including the rest of the country. Q: Will the outline print sharply? A: Yes. The outline is a vector shape in PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD exports, and PNG renders it at 300 DPI for the page size you set. Q: Can I change the paper colour after fitting the outline? A: Yes. Change the paper colour, switch the map frame to Rectangle, then choose Country / region again and refit. The new mask uses the new paper colour. Q: Can I move the map after the outline is fitted? A: Yes. The mask is attached to the map, so you can zoom into one part of the country and the coastline stays cut out. Lock the map area in Map › View when you are happy with it. Q: Where does the boundary data come from? A: From Natural Earth, a public domain dataset of country and region boundaries at 1:10 million scale. The map inside the outline uses OpenStreetMap data through OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap, with the credit printed in the bottom margin. ### Wedding map posters URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/wedding-map-poster/ Design a wedding or anniversary map poster: mark where you met and married, add names, a date and coordinates, then send a print-ready PDF to a print shop. Guide to making a wedding or anniversary map poster in Print Map Studio: marking two places with place markers or an arc route, writing the title and date, how the coordinates line is derived from the map centre, choosing paper colour, and preparing PDF or 300 DPI PNG files for a print shop. #### Two places, one map | Step | Same town | Different cities or countries | | --- | --- | --- | | Frame | Both places plus a few streets around them | Both places with the land and sea between them | | Mark | A place marker on each, labelled with a short name | A place marker on each city | | Connect | Often left unconnected, or joined by a dashed route for the walk between them | An Arc route with the Air, Train, Car or Ship travel marker | | Labels | Street names on, text scale near 100% | Basemap labels off, so your two names stand out | | Page | Portrait, A3 or 30 × 40 cm | Landscape if the places sit east and west of each other | #### Questions Q: Can I use a heart instead of a pin? A: Yes. Upload your own PNG, JPEG or SVG image as a place marker. It is stored inside the project and appears in PNG, layered SVG and layered PSD exports. For a PDF, the built-in circle, square and diamond markers work well. Q: How do I draw a line between where we met and where we married? A: Use the Route tool, click the two places, and choose Arc for a curved line. Pick a travel marker (Air, Train, Car, Walking, Cycling or Ship) and a solid or dashed line, then set its colour and width. Q: Can I add our wedding date and a short quote? A: Yes. The subtitle and caption each hold up to 400 characters, with their own font, size and colour. Short lines read better on a wall than long ones. Q: What size works best as a gift? A: A3 (297 × 420 mm) and 30 × 40 cm frames are easy to buy ready-made. For a statement piece above a bed or sofa, A2 or 50 × 70 cm. Set the page to the frame size before you design, so the composition fits. Q: Can I make the same map as a card or invitation? A: Yes. Switch the page to A6 (105 × 148 mm) or A5 and export again. Raise the text scale in Map › Labels & details if the street names look small at that size. Q: Can we add a third place, such as where we got engaged? A: Yes. Add as many place markers as you like, each with its own label of up to 40 characters. Three places read well joined by one Arc route, clicked in the order they happened. ### Travel maps with photos URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/travel-map-with-photos/ Pin up to 24 trip photos to the places you took them, add a numbered photo strip with captions, draw the route between stops and print it at any size. Print Map Studio can attach PNG or JPEG photos to point places on a map, show them as numbered circles or squares on the map, and add a numbered photo strip with captions above or below the map. A project holds up to 24 photo stops; each photo is up to 1 MiB and 2048 pixels per side. #### How big each photo prints in the strip | Photos in the strip | A4 portrait tile | Strip height for A4 | A3 portrait tile | Strip height for A3 | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 4 | 43 mm | 56 mm | 65 mm | 78 mm | | 6 | 28 mm | 40 mm | 42 mm | 55 mm | | 8 | 20 mm | 33 mm | 31 mm | 43 mm | | 12 | 12 mm | 25 mm | 19 mm | 32 mm | | 16 | 8 mm | 21 mm | 14 mm | 26 mm | | 24 | 4.8 mm | 17 mm | 8 mm | 20 mm | #### Questions Q: How many photos can I add to one map? A: Up to 24 photo stops per project. Each photo can be a PNG or JPEG of up to 1 MiB and 2048 pixels per side. Q: Are my photos uploaded anywhere? A: Photos stay on your device. They are stored in the browser autosave and inside the project file you download, and exports are made in your browser. Q: Can I change the numbering order? A: Stops are numbered in the order you add them. To move a photo to the end of the sequence, remove it and add it again. Adding photos in trip order from the start saves the reshuffle. Q: Can I show photos without the strip? A: Yes. Turn on Photos on the map and leave the strip off. Captions then appear in a small label under each photo on the map. Q: Which export formats include the photos? A: PNG, PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD all include the photos, the numbered badges and the strip, at the page size you set. Q: Can I add the route I drove? A: Yes. Draw it with the Route tool using Road, Arc or Straight segments, or import a GPX, KML or GeoJSON track from your phone, car or bike computer. For a poster built around the route itself, see route map posters. ### Map poster templates URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/map-poster-templates/ Five map poster layouts with paper, type and map style already matched. What each one is for, what changes when you switch, and four starter cities. Print Map Studio has five poster layout presets (City edition, Quiet lines, After dark, Land & outline, Field notes) and four starter cities (Lisbon, Kyoto, New York, Copenhagen). Switching layout keeps the map position, layers, photos and title text and changes paper colour, type, ink colour, margins and map style. #### The five layouts and what each is for | Layout | Look | Use it for | | --- | --- | --- | | City edition | Cream paper, slate-black Classic serif title below the map, Paper style | Hometown and city posters with a traditional title block | | Quiet lines | White paper, Modern sans title above the map, Paper style | Minimal rooms, lots of open space and exact coordinates | | After dark | Deep navy paper, Modern sans title below the map, Night Ink style | A statement piece. Dense street grids glow against the dark ground | | Land & outline | Cream paper, dark green-grey Classic serif title below the map, Paper style | Country and region posters with a shaped map frame | | Field notes | Warm parchment, Field notes mono title above the map, Paper style | Trips, routes and photo stories with a logbook feel | #### Questions Q: Which layout should I use with a country or region outline? A: Land & outline. It sets cream paper and a serif title in dark green-grey, which suits a cut-out shape. Choose it before fitting the outline in Layout › Map frame, because the mask takes the paper colour at the moment you fit it. Q: What page size does a template start on? A: New projects start on an A4 landscape page. Change the size and orientation in Layout › Page; the template's margins and title block adjust to the new page. Q: Can I start a template somewhere other than the four starter cities? A: Yes. Choose one of the five designs without a starter, then search for or pan to your own place. Or pick a starter and move the map: the layout stays the same. Q: Will switching layout move my map? A: The map stays exactly where you framed it. The layout changes the paper, type, margins and map style around it. Q: Can I make my own template? A: Yes. Adjust a layout until you like it, then download the project file. Open it whenever you want to start a new poster with the same look, and change the place and title. ### GPX map maker URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/gpx-map-maker/ Upload GPX, KML, or GeoJSON and turn a recorded track into a print-ready map. Style routes and waypoints, set the page size, and export PNG, PDF, SVG, or PSD. How GPX, KML and GeoJSON files (up to 10 at once, 5 MB each) become editable route, waypoint and shape layers, how to style and road-match a track, how to download an elevation profile as SVG, PNG or PDF, and how to frame and export the map. #### Questions Q: Which GPS file formats can I import? A: GPX (versions 1.0 and 1.1), KML and GeoJSON. You can drop up to 10 files at once. Q: How large can a GPX or KML file be? A: Each file can be up to 5 MB, with up to 1,000 features and 200,000 coordinates. Q: What happens to waypoints? A: Waypoints are imported as place content that can be styled and managed separately from route layers. Q: Can I change the map after importing? A: Yes. Imported routes, places, and shapes become editable layers that can be styled, reordered, hidden, duplicated, or deleted. Q: Does the export keep my route as a vector? A: Yes. PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD keep routes and waypoints as vector content, so lines stay sharp at any print size. Q: Can I add an elevation profile? A: Yes. Generate one from the advanced route tools and download it as SVG, PNG or PDF. The route map poster guide covers sizing and placement. ### Route map posters URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/route-map-poster/ Make a route map poster from a run, ride or hike on Strava, Garmin or Komoot. Pick a line weight that prints well, mark the start and finish, and add elevation. Guide to designing a printed running, cycling or hiking route poster from a GPX export: page size, route line width (0.3 mm per pixel in PDF, SVG and PSD), start and finish places, poster text and a separately downloaded elevation profile. #### Pick a line weight that prints well | Route width | Printed line | Works well for | | --- | --- | --- | | 2 px | 0.6 mm | A6 and A5 cards, or a second route drawn under the main one | | 4 px | 1.2 mm | A4 prints and routes through dense city streets | | 6 px | 1.8 mm | A3 posters that people look at from a metre or two away | | 8 px | 2.4 mm | A2 posters and long rides where the line carries the whole design | #### Questions Q: Which apps can I use for the GPX file? A: Any app that exports GPX, KML or GeoJSON. Strava, Garmin Connect and Komoot all export GPX, and so do the companion apps for most GPS watches. Q: Can I put several runs or rides on one poster? A: Yes. Import each file and it becomes its own route layer. Give each one a colour, then use the layer order to decide which line sits on top. Q: How do I keep my home address off the poster? A: Trim the track before you import it. Strava's Crop option or a free GPX editor such as gpx.studio can cut the first and last few hundred metres. Then put the start and finish places where the trimmed line begins and ends. Q: What paper size should I choose? A: A3 portrait suits most city races and day hikes. Long, thin routes like a coastal ride often look better in landscape or on a custom page size in millimetres. Q: Can I make a 3D model of the route as well? A: Yes. The 3D terrain export can raise the route as a ridge on an STL relief model for 3D printing. Q: Can I show my finish time or pace? A: Yes. Put the time in the subtitle and the distance and pace in the caption, for example "42.2 km · 3:58:12 · 5:39 /km". Each text line has its own font, size and colour. ### Topographic maps URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/topographic-map-maker/ Draw real elevation contours and 3D terrain on a printable map. Pick the contour interval, line colour and width, then export PNG or PDF at your page size. Elevation contours (interval 10 to 10,000 m, index line every fifth contour) and 3D terrain (exaggeration 0 to 10x, camera pitch up to 60 degrees) drawn from AWS Terrain Tiles on a print map, with guidance on intervals and when tilted terrain suits a print. #### How the contour interval behaves | Map zoom | Minimum spacing | Typical view | | --- | --- | --- | | 5 to 7 | 500 m | A country or a whole mountain range | | 8 to 9 | 200 m | A national park or a long-distance trail | | 10 to 11 | 50 m | A valley, an island or a city and its hills | | 12 and closer | 10 m | A single peak, a day hike or a ski area | #### Questions Q: How accurate are the contour lines? A: They are computed from global elevation tiles that blend USGS, SRTM and other sources, which is the right level of detail for posters, overview maps and trip planning. Q: Which interval should I use for a hiking map? A: At zoom 12 and closer, 20 m suits most hill country and 50 m suits steep alpine terrain. Check the steepest slope on the page and widen the interval if the lines crowd together. Q: Can I change the contour colour to match my style? A: Yes. Pick any colour and a line width from 0.1 to 10. Contours are drawn at 75% opacity so they blend with the base map. Q: Can I 3D print the terrain? A: Yes. Set Pitch to 0 and use the 3D model export to download a watertight STL of the print area for your slicer. Q: Will the terrain show in the exported file? A: Yes. Terrain and contours are drawn into the 300 DPI basemap of the PNG, PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD exports, the same way they appear on the map. ### 3D terrain STL URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/3d-terrain-map-stl/ Export any area as a watertight STL terrain model for 3D printing. Set the size in millimetres, base, exaggeration and detail, and raise a route as a ridge. Binary STL terrain relief export in millimetres: 10 to 1000 mm per side, 0.2 to 100 mm base, 0.1 to 50x exaggeration, 64, 128 or 256 samples on the long side, and an optional raised route ridge. Elevation from AWS Terrain Tiles (Mapzen). #### How tall will it print? | Area | Frame on a 150 mm model | Relief | Terrain at 1× | Try | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Mount Rainier, Washington | 20 km, scale 1:133,000 | about 3,800 m | 28 mm | 1× | | San Francisco | 10 km, scale 1:67,000 | about 280 m | 4.2 mm | 2× for 8.4 mm | | Lake District, England | 30 km, scale 1:200,000 | about 940 m | 4.7 mm | 3× for 14 mm | #### Questions Q: Which slicers can open the file? A: Any slicer that reads binary STL, including PrusaSlicer, Cura, Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer. Q: Does it need supports? A: The model is a solid block with a flat bottom and terrain on top, so it prints straight off the bed with supports turned off. Q: How do I print a model larger than my bed? A: Export at the full size you want, up to 1000 mm per side, then use your slicer's cut tool to split it into tiles that fit the bed. Q: Can I print it in more than one colour? A: The STL is one solid body. Paint it after printing, or use the colour painting tool in a multi-material slicer to pick out water, the route ridge or a snow line. Q: Can I rotate the model so north is not at the top? A: Yes. Set the map bearing before you export and the model keeps that rotation. Q: What scale is the model? A: Divide the width of the area on the ground by the model width. A 20 km frame on a 150 mm model is about 1:133,000. The height table above shows how that scale turns real relief into millimetres of terrain. ### Travel time maps URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/travel-time-map/ Draw a travel time map of everywhere you can reach on foot, by bike or by car in 5 to 60 minutes. Stack several rings, style them and export a print-ready file. Travel-time areas (isochrones) from the Mapbox Isochrone API for walking, cycling or driving, 5 to 60 minutes, added to a print map as editable shape layers that export as vectors in PDF, SVG and PSD. #### Questions Q: What is an isochrone map? A: An isochrone is a line joining places that take the same time to reach from a starting point. A travel time map fills the area inside that line, so you see everywhere reachable within the limit. Q: How many rings can I add? A: As many as the map needs. Each one is its own layer, so you can mix modes too, for example a 15 minute walk and a 15 minute ride from the same point. Q: Can I change the colours after generating an area? A: Yes. Select the layer and change the fill, outline, outline width and opacity at any time. Q: Do travel-time areas print as vectors? A: Yes. PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD keep them as vector shapes. PNG renders them at 300 DPI with the rest of the page. Q: Which travel mode should I choose? A: Walking suits city centres, stations and shops. Cycling suits commutes and campus maps. Driving suits suburbs, rural sites and anything measured in tens of kilometres, such as a catchment area for a venue. ### Layered SVG and PSD export URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/layered-map-export/ Export a map as a print-size PNG, an exact-page PDF, a layered SVG with named vector groups, or a layered PSD with Smart Objects for Photoshop. Differences between the print exports: 300 DPI PNG with stored DPI, exact-size PDF with vector overlays over a 300 DPI basemap, layered SVG with named vector groups and an optional vector basemap, and layered PSD with Smart Objects; plus MP4 video and STL terrain exports. #### Questions Q: Which export format should I choose? A: Choose PNG for a finished image, PDF for exact-size printing, SVG for editing in a vector design tool, or PSD for an organized Photoshop file. Q: Can I edit the map after exporting? A: Yes. Choose layered SVG or layered PSD when you want routes, places, and shapes kept in separate named groups or Smart Objects. Q: Does PDF keep the page size I selected? A: Yes. PDF preserves the physical page dimensions set in the editor, including standard and custom page sizes. Q: Which apps open each format? A: PNG opens in any image or layout tool, PDF in any PDF reader, layered SVG in Illustrator, Inkscape or Affinity Designer, and layered PSD in Photoshop. Q: Where are export files made? A: In your browser. Each file is generated on your device and saved straight to your downloads folder. Q: Is the map data credit included? A: Yes. Every export prints a small credit for OpenStreetMap, OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap in the bottom margin, which covers the attribution the map data licence asks for. ### Map video maker URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/map-video-maker/ Turn a map poster into a 5, 10 or 15 second MP4 that orbits or sways. Pick 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9 for social posts. Records in Chrome, Edge and Safari. MP4 video export of a finished map poster with an orbit (one full turn) or sway camera motion: 5, 10 or 15 seconds, 30 or 60 fps, poster, 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 aspect, up to 1920 px. Recorded in the browser with MediaRecorder in Chrome, Edge and Safari. #### Orbit or sway | Motion | Orbit | Sway | | --- | --- | --- | | Camera move | One full 360° turn | A gentle swing of 18° each way | | Feels like | Walking around a model | A slow look left and right | | North | Comes back to the top at the end | Stays near the top throughout | | Best with | 3D terrain, a peak or a valley | City maps, route posters, anything with lots of text | #### Questions Q: How long can the video be? A: Choose 5, 10 or 15 seconds. Both motions loop cleanly, so you can repeat a clip in any video editor to make a longer one. Q: Will the video have a watermark? A: No. The clip shows your poster and the map credit, the same as the printed version. Q: Can I add music? A: The MP4 drops straight into CapCut, iMovie, Premiere or the Instagram and TikTok editors, where you can add music, captions and cuts. Q: Does it record the 3D terrain? A: Yes. The video uses the same pitch and terrain as your map, so a tilted mountain view stays tilted for the whole clip. Q: What should I make first, the poster or the video? A: The poster. The video records the finished page, so the same project gives you a print file and a clip to share it. ### Share and embed maps URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/share-and-embed-maps/ Share a map as a read-only link, embed it on a website with an iframe, or print a QR code that opens the location. No account and nothing to upload. Print Map Studio compresses the whole project into the URL fragment of a read-only share link (up to 64 KB), offers an iframe embed with a 240–2000 px height and an optional pan and zoom toggle, and can print a location QR code that opens Google Maps. #### Link, embed or project file | | Share link | Embed | Project file | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Best for | Sending a design to a friend or client | Showing the map on a website | Backups and handing over editable work | | The viewer can | View, download the project, remix a copy | View, with or without pan and zoom, and open the full map | Open and edit everything in the editor | | The design lives in | The link itself | The iframe address | A.printmap.json or.printmap.zip file | | Holds up to | 64 KB compressed | 64 KB compressed | 10 MB | #### Questions Q: Do people need an account to open a shared map? A: No. The link opens in any modern browser and shows the map straight away. Q: Does a share link update when I edit the map? A: Each link is a snapshot of the design when you copied it. Copy a new link after editing and send that one; earlier links keep showing the version they were made from. Q: Can someone change my original map? A: Remix this map opens a separate copy in their browser. Your own project stays in your browser storage, exactly as you left it. Q: Where does the QR code point? A: To Google Maps, at the map centre or at a place you pick in the Layout tab. Q: How do I embed a map in WordPress? A: Copy the embed code from the Share dialog and paste it into a Custom HTML block. The iframe sizes itself to the width of your content column. ### Map print size guide URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/map-print-size-guide/ Map print sizes for A-series and US paper in millimetres, inches and pixels at 150 and 300 DPI, plus viewing distance, margins, bleed and which file to send. Reference tables for A6 to A1, US Letter, Tabloid, 18 x 24 in, 50 x 70 cm and 24 x 36 in with pixel dimensions at 150 and 300 DPI (pixels = mm / 25.4 x DPI), viewing-distance guidance, margins, bleed and safe area, and which export format to send a print shop. #### Paper sizes in millimetres, inches and pixels | Size | Millimetres | Inches | Pixels at 150 DPI | Pixels at 300 DPI | In the editor | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | A6 | 148 × 105 | 5.8 × 4.1 | 874 × 620 | 1,748 × 1,240 | Preset | | A5 | 210 × 148 | 8.3 × 5.8 | 1,240 × 874 | 2,480 × 1,748 | Preset | | US Letter | 279.4 × 215.9 | 11 × 8.5 | 1,650 × 1,275 | 3,300 × 2,550 | Preset | | A4 | 297 × 210 | 11.7 × 8.3 | 1,754 × 1,240 | 3,508 × 2,480 | Preset | | Tabloid (11 × 17 in) | 431.8 × 279.4 | 17 × 11 | 2,550 × 1,650 | 5,100 × 3,300 | Custom size | | A3 | 420 × 297 | 16.5 × 11.7 | 2,480 × 1,754 | 4,961 × 3,508 | Preset | | A2 | 594 × 420 | 23.4 × 16.5 | 3,508 × 2,480 | 7,016 × 4,961 | Preset | | 18 × 24 in | 609.6 × 457.2 | 24 × 18 | 3,600 × 2,700 | 7,200 × 5,400 | Custom size | | 50 × 70 cm | 700 × 500 | 27.6 × 19.7 | 4,134 × 2,953 | 8,268 × 5,906 | Custom size | | A1 | 841 × 594 | 33.1 × 23.4 | 4,967 × 3,508 | 9,933 × 7,016 | Custom size | | 24 × 36 in | 914.4 × 609.6 | 36 × 24 | 5,400 × 3,600 | 10,800 × 7,200 | Custom size | #### Questions Q: What DPI should a map poster be? A: 300 DPI at the final size. Large posters seen from a few metres look fine at lower resolutions, but people step closer to read map labels, so 300 is the safer choice for anything with street names. Q: How many pixels is an A2 print at 300 DPI? A: 7,016 × 4,961 pixels for a 594 × 420 mm sheet. At 150 DPI it is 3,508 × 2,480. Q: Can I print an A4 map at A2? A: Set the page to A2 in the editor before you export. Print Map Studio renders map detail for the page you choose, so an A2 export has four times the pixels of an A4 one rather than an enlarged A4. Q: What size is 11 × 17 in millimetres? A: Tabloid is 279.4 × 431.8 mm. Enter it as a custom size; at 300 DPI it is 5,100 × 3,300 pixels. Q: Do I need bleed for a map with white margins? A: Usually not. Bleed exists for colour that touches the trim edge, and with white paper and margins the edge is blank either way. Your print shop has the final word, so ask if you are unsure. ### Printmaps.net alternative URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/printmaps-net-alternative/ Print Map Studio and Printmaps.net compared on price, export formats, print sizes and map tools, checked in October 2026, so you can pick the right editor. A: Printmaps.net adds "© Printmaps.net / OSM Contributors" in the bottom-right corner, and if you remove it the credit has to appear legibly near the map. Print Map Studio prints a small OpenStreetMap, OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap caption in the bottom margin of every export. Q: What do I need to move a project from Printmaps.net? A: Your original GPX, KML or GeoJSON files and your list of places. Import the files, paste the places into the spreadsheet, and set the same page size in millimetres. Q: Which editor handles bigger prints? A: Both handle poster sizes. Printmaps.net layered SVG goes up to 1330 × 1330 mm. Print Map Studio accepts pages up to 1330 mm a side, writes 300 DPI PDFs up to A1, and saves 300 DPI PNGs up to 50 × 70 cm in one file, with larger PNGs streamed straight to disk in Chrome and Edge. Q: Do both use OpenStreetMap data? A: Yes. Printmaps.net uses OpenStreetMap. Print Map Studio styles use OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles, which are built from OpenStreetMap, and every export prints the OpenStreetMap licence URL in its credit line. Q: Do I need an account for Printmaps.net? A: Its own documentation says you can create maps without signing up. You pay at checkout and receive download links and an invoice by email. ### Real estate maps URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/real-estate-location-map/ Make a real estate location map for a listing flyer: the property, nearby places from a spreadsheet, a walking-time area and a location QR code, ready to print. Workflow for property listing maps: paste up to 300 nearby places with coordinates or look up 25 addresses at a time, add a walking or driving travel-time area, a location QR code that opens Google Maps, numbered photo stops, and export at flyer sizes such as A4 or US Letter. #### Flyer and handout sizes | Use | Page (mm) | PNG at 300 DPI (px) | | --- | --- | --- | | US Letter flyer, 8.5 × 11 in | 215.9 × 279.4 | 2550 × 3300 | | A4 flyer | 210 × 297 | 2480 × 3508 | | A5 leaflet | 148 × 210 | 1748 × 2480 | | Half Letter handout, 5.5 × 8.5 in | 139.7 × 215.9 | 1650 × 2550 | | Postcard, 4 × 6 in | 101.6 × 152.4 | 1200 × 1800 | | Map box on a flyer | 180 × 110 | 2126 × 1299 | #### Questions Q: Can I use my agency logo as the property marker? A: Yes. Upload a PNG, JPEG or SVG as a custom marker. Raster images can be 100 to 2048 pixels per side and up to 1 MiB. Custom markers export in PNG, layered SVG and layered PSD. Q: Can I match our brand colours? A: Yes. Set any colour for markers, areas and text, and adjust the base map palette until the streets and water sit comfortably with your brand. Q: How do I reuse the setup for the next listing? A: Download the project file once the first map looks right. For the next listing, open that file, move the property marker, paste the new nearby places and export. Q: Can I use the map in commercial listings? A: Yes. The editor is free with no account, and the exported files are yours to use. Keep the printed map credit on the page. Q: Which format should I send to the printer? A: PDF, at the exact page size you set. It keeps places, areas and text sharp. Use the PNG for the website and email. ### About URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/about/ Why Print Map Studio exists, who builds and maintains it, how your map projects stay in the browser, and where to find the source code or ask for help. Print Map Studio is a free, print-first map editor maintained by Yasoob Khalid, with source code on GitHub. Projects autosave in the browser and exports are built locally; the page also lists what the editor makes and where to report bugs. ### Product facts URL: https://printmaps.yasoob.me/product-facts/ Plain facts about Print Map Studio: page sizes, map styles, import and export formats, video and STL settings, data sources, sharing, and privacy. Print Map Studio is a free browser-based editor for print-ready maps and map posters. Pick a place, set the page size, choose a style, add routes, places, photos or shapes, and export the finished map. ### How do I design a map? Choose the page size and orientation, move the map to the place you need, select a visual style, then add routes, places or areas. Turn on a poster layout for a title and caption, check the composition on the page, and export when it looks right. ### Is Print Map Studio free? Yes. Every feature and every export format is free, and exports carry no watermark. The only text added to the page is the small map data credit that OpenStreetMap requires. ### Do I need to create an account? No. Open the editor and start designing. Print Map Studio runs in your browser. ### Where are my map projects stored? Your current project autosaves in browser storage on your device. Download a portable project file to keep a backup or to continue on another computer. ### Can I choose a custom print size? Yes. Start from A2, A3, A4, A5, A6 or US Letter, or enter a custom width and height in millimetres, then switch between landscape and portrait. ### Which map data files can I import? You can import GPX, KML and GeoJSON files. Imported routes, points and shapes become editable layers in the project. ### Can I draw routes and add places? Yes. Draw routes as straight lines, arcs or road-following directions, add travel markers along them, and place single markers or a whole list of places. Each layer has its own style. ### Can I add many places at once? Yes. Paste up to 300 rows with coordinates into the place spreadsheet, or up to 25 addresses that the editor looks up for you. ### Can I upload a custom marker or logo? Yes. A place marker can use your own PNG, JPEG or SVG image. Custom markers are saved inside the project file and appear on the live map and in PNG, layered SVG and layered PSD exports. ### Can I add photos to the map? Yes. Pin a photo to a place and show it as a round or square badge on the map, or in a numbered strip with captions along the top or bottom of the page. A poster can hold up to 24 photo stops. ### Can I highlight a country or region? Yes. Pick any country or first-level region from the built-in catalogue and add it as a styled shape, or use its outline as the frame of the whole map. ### Can I change map labels and language? Yes. Adjust text scale, show or hide labels and other map details, and choose local names, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish or Chinese. ### Which online services does the editor use? Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap. Place search, road routing, map matching and travel-time areas use Mapbox, and elevation data comes from Open-Meteo. Everything else, including exports, runs in your browser. ### Which export formats are available? Print Map Studio exports print-sized PNG, PDF, layered SVG and layered PSD files, plus MP4 map videos and STL terrain models. PDF and SVG keep routes, places and shapes as vector content. PSD puts each content layer in its own SVG Smart Object over the basemap. ### Can I make a high-resolution map for print? Yes. PNG export renders the selected page size at 300 dpi, so an A3 page comes out at about 4961 by 3508 pixels. PDF keeps the exact page dimensions. The editor estimates memory use before very large exports. ### Can I make a map video or a 3D print? Yes. Video export records an orbit or a gentle sway around your map for 5, 10 or 15 seconds at 30 or 60 fps, as MP4 in Chrome, Edge or Safari. STL export turns the terrain into a relief model for a 3D printer, with an optional raised route. ### Can I edit the map after export? Choose layered SVG for named vector groups in Illustrator, Inkscape or Affinity, or layered PSD for separately named Smart Objects in Photoshop. PNG gives you a finished image and PDF an exact page. ### How do I receive my exported files? Exports are created in your browser and download straight to your device. ### Can I get my map printed? Yes. Download a PNG or PDF at the exact page size and send it to any print shop or online printing service. The map print size guide lists pixel sizes for each paper size. Wall preview shows the poster in a black, white, oak or walnut frame first. ### Can I share a map online? Yes. Create a read-only share link or copy an iframe embed code for your website, as described in share and embed maps. The shared map keeps your design and the map attribution. ### What map data does Print Map Studio use? The standard map styles use OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles data derived from OpenStreetMap. The required attribution is printed as a small credit in the page margin of every export.
