What stays on your device and what leaves it.

How Print Map Studio handles local project data, imported files, analytics, map service requests, browser storage, and the exports made on your own device.

Last updated October 19, 2026

The short version

Print Map Studio has no user accounts or server-side project database. Your project, imported files, and exports stay on your device. Analytics, map tiles, and optional location features send limited request data to third-party services.

Project data stored in your browser

The current project autosaves to IndexedDB storage associated with this site. The saved record can include your page settings, map position, styles, routes, places, shapes, and imported geographic data. Small interface preferences may be stored in localStorage, and a temporary startup-recovery flag may be stored in sessionStorage.

Browser storage remains on your device until you clear site data or remove the saved project. Download a project file before clearing browser data if you need a backup.

Imported files and exports

GPX, KML, and GeoJSON files are parsed locally in your browser. Map exports, including PNG, PDF, layered SVG, and layered PSD, are generated in the browser and downloaded to your device. Print Map Studio does not upload those source files or finished exports to its own server.

Google Analytics

Production pages load Google Analytics to understand page visits and general engagement. Google may process information such as your device and browser, approximate location, referring page, and interactions with the site, and may use cookies or similar identifiers. Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy and use your browser settings or privacy tools to control cookies.

The editor also records feature usage, such as changing map settings, editing layers, using drawing tools, searching for a place, importing data, and starting or finishing an export. These custom events include action names and limited preset information, such as layer type or export format. They do not include project or layer names, labels, search text, file names or contents, geographic coordinates, uploaded images, or raw error messages. Rapid setting changes are grouped rather than recording every keystroke or slider movement.

Map and elevation services

OpenFreeMap

The editor requests map tiles, fonts, and sprites from OpenFreeMap. Those requests include your IP address, browser request metadata, and the tile coordinates needed to display the map.

Mapbox

Place search, road routing, map matching, and travel-time areas send the relevant search text or geographic coordinates to Mapbox when those features are available and you use them. Review Mapbox's Privacy Policy for its handling of those requests.

Open-Meteo

When you request an elevation profile, sampled route coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo elevation API. Review Open-Meteo's terms and privacy information.

AWS Terrain Tiles

When 3D terrain, contour lines or the STL export are on, the editor loads elevation tiles from the AWS Terrain Tiles dataset hosted on Amazon S3. Those requests include your IP address, browser request metadata and the tile coordinates of the area on screen. See the AWS Terrain Tiles dataset page and the AWS Privacy Notice.

Hosting

The public site is hosted with GitHub Pages. GitHub may process standard web request and security logs as the hosting provider. See the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
